Walt Smith - CEO, Riverstone Residential
Group
In his capacity as CEO, Walt
provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to
Riverstone Residential Group and its affiliated U.S. companies
(“Riverstone”). Walt also serves as the primary
liaison to the Company’s Board of Directors as well as its
principal shareholders. He has held this position since September
2009. Riverstone manages a portfolio of multi-family
residential property assets valued at more than $15 billion for
leading institutions, pension funds, developers and other private
investors. Located in more than thirty metropolitan markets across
the nation, Riverstone’s portfolio of approximately 650
managed properties include high-rise, mid-rise, and garden-style
communities.
Walt has been in the property management industry for more than
twenty years. He was one of the three founding principals of HSC
Real Estate, serving as its president from 2001 until it was
acquired by Riverstone in 2008. At the time of the Riverstone
transaction, HSC provided property management services for more
than 34,000 apartment homes in California and the Pacific
Northwest.
Among his achievements and
roles within the industry, Walt currently serves as a board member
of the National Multi Housing Council. Walt earned a degree
in communications from Montana State University and remains active
with the institution through his continuing service on its
foundation board of directors.
Walt and his family live in
Seattle, Washington. He maintains offices in both the Seattle
regional office as well as at the Company’s corporate
headquarters in Dallas, and travels extensively throughout the
portfolio of Riverstone-managed properties and regional
offices.

Terry Danner -
President, CPM ®
Terry, the company’s president, is responsible for property
operations and furthering the company’s strategic initiatives
in managing more than 160,000 apartment homes across the country.
His expertise continues helping establish Riverstone Residential
Group as a world-class property and asset management company. Terry
also leads the corporate marketing and research efforts, including
branding, advertising, public relations, and online presence.
Partnering with Christy Freeland in 2006, Terry established
Riverstone Residential Group through a buyout of Trammell Crow
Residential Services. While at Trammell Crow, Terry served as
president and chief operating officer, responsible for the South
Central region.
He graduated from Georgia Tech with high honors, earning a
bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, and also earned a
master’s of business administration degree from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has an extensive
history of involvement with the National Apartment Association, and
currently acts as a board member at large, a member of the
executive committee, the 2012 education conference chair, and the
2011 legislative committee chair.

Maura Bilafer
- Division President, East
Maura oversees a portfolio of more than 40,000 apartment homes in
more than 150 properties in the mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Midwest,
Southeast, and Florida regions for Riverstone Residential Group.
From garden-style to high-rise apartments, Maura's experience
includes construction, lease-ups, financially and physically
stressed assets, and mixed-use properties.
Maura has more than 20 years experience in the multifamily
industry, the past 11 years with Trammell Crow Residential Services
and Riverstone Residential Group. Maura previously worked in the
asset and property management divisions at NHP/Aimco and Boston
Financial Group.

Stephanie Brock
- Division President, Central
Stephanie oversees a diversified residential portfolio that
includes nearly 35,000 apartment homes and approximately 125
communities of high rise, mid-rise and garden-style apartments in
Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Missouri, and Louisiana.
Stephanie has more than 20 years of experience in the multifamily
industry and has been involved in the successful lease-up of more
than 50 new apartment communities. Stephanie has been with
Riverstone Residential Group since its inception. Previously, she
had worked with Trammell Crow Residential Services where she was
instrumental in reestablishing market presence in Houston, Denver
and Phoenix.

Mike Dow -
Division President, West
Mike brings more than 25 years of real estate experience to his
role as president of Riverstone Residential Group's West division.
As division president, Mike works closely with property owners and
operational teams to achieve strategic revenue goals and ensure an
exceptional experience for clients and residents.
Holding ultimate responsibility for achieving aggressive
operational objectives and delivering optimal occupancy and net
operating income, Mike's responsibilities extend to more than 400
properties comprising approximately 70,000 apartment homes across
the western region including California, Washington, Oregon,
Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, and New Mexico.
Since joining Riverstone Residential Group in the fall of 2008,
Mike has built a world-class executive team and secured more than
8,500 units of new business throughout the division.
In his most recent role—as chief operating officer of FPI
Management—Mike was responsible for a 50,000-unit portfolio
covering California, Washington, Oregon and Nevada. He also
previously served as president of Group Interland Management
Corporation, a real estate investment and development company based
in San Francisco.

MarySusan Wanich
- Chief Operating Officer
MarySusan is the chief operating officer of the operational support
group consisting of property services, human resources, quality
assurance, compliance, regional maintenance, ancillary services,
program implementations, and performance metrics. She is the broker
of record in 11 states and the District of Columbia.
MarySusan has been active in the real estate industry since 1982,
and began her tenure at Riverstone Residential Group in 1997. She
has experience in conventional, affordable, student and senior
housing, condo management, and real estate sales.

Laurie Brashear
- Chief Human Resources Officer
Laurie is responsible for leading all human resources efforts. Her
scope of responsibility includes associate relations, benefits,
compensation and career development.
As an executive in human resources for more than 20 years, Laurie
has previously held the same title with similar responsibilities on
a global scale with Stream, a 15,000-employee contact center
outsourcing company. She was also formerly director of global human
resources for Software Spectrum, and had significant international
and domestic responsibilities at the Aluminum Company of America
(ALCOA) and Mary Kay, Inc.
Laurie holds a bachelor's degree from Wittenburg University in
Springfield, Ohio.

Pål Ottesen
- Chief Financial Officer
Pål is responsible for the client accounting department and
the information systems department. Prior to joining Riverstone
Residential Group, Pål was a principal of HSC Real Estate,
Inc. and has been in the real estate industry since 1991. During
his 17 years with HSC, Pål gained experience in all aspects
of property management; the last 8 years he was responsible for all
operations of HSC’s 35,000-unit portfolio. Since the
acquisition of HSC by Riverstone in 2008, he has served as the
chief operating officer of the West division.
Pål graduated cum laude from Washington State University with
a bachelor of arts in business administration.

Mel Barks -
Chief Performance Officer
Mel's areas of responsibility include corporate and property
metrics, process management, and customer satisfaction for clients,
residents, and associates.
Mel joined Riverstone Residential Group in 2007. She has been
affiliated with the UK parent company, CAS Partners, since 2005 and
moved to Dallas from the UK to work in the property management
services area of the organization. Prior to joining CAS Partners,
Mel held various executive positions within UK third-party real
estate firms, with responsibilities including oversight of property
accounting and integration of acquired businesses into standardized
accounting environments.
Mel has over 20 years of real estate experience and was
instrumental in the integration of systems and procedures for the
CAS Partners portfolio of properties totaling $600 million in
revenue.

Maitri Johnson
- Executive Vice President, Property Services
Maitri is responsible for the oversight of all property marketing
and training efforts as well as Riverstone’s National
Practices, the platform through which all operations are performed
and measured.
With 24 years in the multifamily industry, Maitri has been with
Riverstone since its inception, coming from the Trammell Crow
Residential Services transition. She spent the prior 13 years with
Dinerstein Companies, a Houston-based management company. Prior to
multifamily, Maitri was with Smith-Kline Beecham Pharmaceuticals,
operating in its global headquarters in Brentford, England.
Maitri is active in the industry, currently serving on the board of
directors for the National Apartment Association (NAA) and National
Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI), as vice chair
for the NAAEI, and a member of NAA’s lease advisory
committee. She will serve as president of the NAAEI for the
2012-2014 term. She is also a past member of Houston Apartment
Association’s board of directors. She is a sought-after
industry expert for presentations at national conferences.
Maitri’s formal education is from the University of London,
majoring in journalism.

Gardner Rees -
Executive Vice President, Ancillary Services
Gardner is responsible for originating and implementing corporate
acquisition activities, from transaction analysis through due
diligence and operational integration. Gardner Rees oversees
Riverstone Residential Group’s ancillary services group which
includes, purchasing services, utility services, client and
resident insurance services, screening services, and receivables
services.
Gardner has extensive experience in the acquisition of multifamily
residential real estate companies and property assets. Immediately
prior to joining Riverstone Residential Group, Gardner was a
principal of Stratus Real Estate in California. He also served as a
vice president for an international investment bank and was
involved in the acquisition, recapitalization and corporate
restructuring of a number of Fortune 100 companies.
Gardner has a bachelor's degree from the University of Western
Ontario and an MBA in corporate finance and information systems
from York University.

Patricia Bowen
- Executive Vice President, Affordable Housing
Services
Patricia is responsible for the oversight of all Tax Credit,
HUD-mortgaged, and federally and state-subsidized units. She
has more than 25 years of leadership experience and prior to
joining Riverstone spent 14 years with NHP/AIMCO. She held
positions in affordable operations leading process improvement,
program development and compliance services, and has experience in
managing market rate, affordable and senior housing assets. Prior
to AIMCO Patricia spent 15 years in the healthcare industry.
Patricia attended the University of Phoenix for a masters degree in
organizational management, holds a bachelor of arts in human
resource management from Colorado Christian University, and an
associates degree in applied sciences from California College of
Health Sciences. She currently serves as a member of the NAA
Affordable Task Force, is an active member of NAHMA, and is
certified as a tax credit specialist and an occupancy specialist
for Section 8 housing.
